The Underground Kingz, aka UGK, represent Port Arthur, Texas which is located on the Southeastern coast of Texas. The group consists of Pimp C & Bun B.

Pimp C, otherwise known as Chad Butler, is the voice of the group. His distinctive tone is popular among all rap music fans. In addition to his down south slang, Pimp C provides spine-tingling beats in every cut he produces and appears in. All of these abilities gelled together makes him one of the best all around figures in the rap world. He has also appeared on other albums under various aliases including "Sweet James Jones", "Sweet Jones", and "Percy Mack".

Bun B, whose real name is Bernard Freeman, is...well, when you listen to him flow, you'll know why he's hailed by many as "the coldest n!&&a on the planet". His unbelievable ability to rhyme and flow is incomparable to any rapper in the industry today, and each verse is outlined with unmatched intelligence. Don't believe it? Just listen for yourself.

The group as we know it today is a result of a lot of history. The original group, Mission Impossible, consisted of Pimp C & his boy Mitchell Queen. One of the tracks they shot out was called Underground Kingz. Shortly after that, the two decided they would adopt that name for their group. After little time had passed, Bun B and Jalon Jackson joined the group; the name of the group became Four Black Ministers; their featured track was called '93 Mac. It was featured under DJ DMD's former production company, DMI (Dangerous Music Incorporated) productions. Because Mitchell and Jalon were athletes and didn't have much time to contribute to the group, they left Four Black Ministers. Now that there were only two members intact, the name had to change; and so Pimp C & Bun B resorted to the name Underground Kingz aka U.G.K..

UGK has produced six (6) albums in their known existence. They started off with the rare album The Southern Way, which was only available on cassette. It consists of five tracks which are available on their third album Too Hard To Swallow. The second album, Banned, was more like a sampling of goods or a maxi single, with only five tracks to boast. Although the album is a little raw for some, it still features all the great characteristics of UGK. The Underground Kingz' third album is entitled Too Hard To Swallow which is followed by album #4, Super Tight.... Both albums show off UGK's ability to combine live instruments, old R&B hits, and jazzed up beats to provide a sound that is straight up off-tha-hook. Album #5 is Ridin' Dirty is thought of by some as their best album yet. After a long, 5-year wait, Album #6, Dirty Money was finally released. It features tracks that had already been released along with some new ear-candy. Album #7, dubbed project Ridin' Platinum for now, is anticipated to be UGK's coming out...a new level.

The story behind UGK's album sequence starts with Big Tyme Records, moves onto Jive...and who knows where this road is going to end. The Southern Way was UGK's first album put out by Big Tyme Records. It was followed by Banned, which was also a Big Tyme Records project. Banned comes as a result of UGK's signing of a 5-record deal with Jive. How's that? Well, UGK's very first Jive project was Too Hard To Swallow. It consists of the 5 tracks from The Southern Way, although they were cleaned up and re-edited. UGK compiled the rest of the tracks for the album of which 5 were rejected due mainly to the content. Those 5 tracks make up Banned. Of course, Super Tight..., Ridin' Dirty, and Dirty Money are UGK's next three Jive records with one more under their current contract on the way.
